CH OnAir Broadcast: Returning to the “Why” when you get stuck in the “What,” with Dwight Cover

Dear Friends,

It was Saturday morning of the Family Relationships & Parenting Conference in Ocean Shores, WA, and I had just sat down to listen to Pastor Dwight Cover’s keynote session, “Why Your Family Matters in the Advance of God’s Kingdom.”

In a matter of minutes into Dwight’s talk, I jumped out of my chair, walked over to my producer for Christian Heritage OnAir, Danny Craig, and said, ”We have to have this guy on the program!”

I could tell Dwight was passionate about the family, but what stood out to me even more was his passing comment about how he and his wife had lost their way – after 20 years of homeschooling! They got disconnected from the “WHY” and had started to drop the ball on the “WHAT”.

Now I could relate to that!

If you can too, please listen in to this next episode of Christian Heritage OnAir as Pastor and homeschooling father, Dwight Cover, shares his testimony of returning to the “Why” when he got stuck in the “What.” Listen in for six reasons we must keep the “Why” in view and the transformation we can experience when we do.

“See” you there!

Dr. Thomas Lamar
Host, Christian Heritage OnAir

CH OnAir Broadcast: How to Raise God-Worshipping Children, with Dr. Joel Beeke

Beeke Broadcast

Many parents begin the Homeschool Journey motivated by a strong desire to nurture a deep and enduring love for God in their children. Over time, they realize that passing on their faith requires something more than simply schooling them at home.

So how do you pass on your deepest convictions to your children in such a way that they learn to worship God on their own? How do you daily bring them to Christ – fully realizing that He, alone, can save them? On September 9 at 7pm, Joel Beeke will join us live to present the familiar biblical pattern of daily discipleship – but in a fresh and winsome way. Tune in to hear the heartfelt testimony of a man whose life was transformed by parents who understood how to raise God-worshiping children.

CH OnAir Broadcast: Walking with Your Sons on the Journey to Manhood, with Craig Houston

Houston LVB

Dear Fellow Dads,

I love my boys – all five of them – and I want the very best for them. I want them to grow up to be mighty men who fear God, and God alone. But I also want them to be tender, humble, self-sacrificing men who lay down their lives for others.

Sometimes it’s tempting to look for a special formula that will guarantee our sons will turn out exactly as we envision. There isn’t a special formula.

I’m convinced, however, that there is a special journey. This is the journey of a father walking beside his son into manhood. This is the journey of a father giving his heart to his sons, with the desire for their hearts in return.

This is the journey I’m seeking to walk with my five boys. And if you desire to walk this journey too, I’d like to invite you to listen to the recording of this Christian Heritage OnAir Live Video Broadcast recorded on August 5, as we explore:

  • How we can give our hearts to our sons, and truly make the effort to gain their’s.
  • How we can build trust with our sons.
  • How we can help our sons reach their full potential, acknowledging their unique natural gifts, spiritual gifts, personalities, and passions.
  • How we can train our sons to understand the importance of work and diligence.
  • How we can lovingly chasten our sons as our Heavenly Father chastens us.
  • How we can teach our sons to love God and others, preferring others better than themselves.
  • How we can give our sons the opportunity to exercise leadership….and fail in the process.
Dads, this world is an unfriendly place for boys who want to become godly men. Let’s not let make them walk this road alone.
Your Brother in Christ,
Pastor Craig Houston

Scientific Illusions

My oldest son used to put on shows using science to create illusions for his friends. When his younger brother was just 4, he would pretend to make him disappear. Of course, the audience figured this trick out easily—when the 4-year-old waved to them from behind the tablecloth!

It’s fun to watch an illusionist and try to discover how he performs his tricks! That disappearing trick was based on distraction of the audience and not on science. However, when an illusion is based on science, it very rarely fails. Why do you think science tricks rarely fail? It is because God created an order to this world, and God’s order is what science is based upon. So if you want to baffle your friends, try the science projects below. (more…)

Every year since I can remember, we’ve gathered in a parking lot.  Our breath fogs the air between us, but quick smiles light the darkness like flaring matches.  There is always a group of us carolers, but the tow-headed youngsters are the stars of the night.

Joy to the world! The Lord is come.

Instruments are slipped from their cases and forced to hold a tune against the icy air.  The same green hand-made songbooks are passed out, baskets laden with cookie plates are unearthed, and the tracts are readied.  The preparations complete, we crowd into a care home and carols of Jesus’ birth reverberate the whole night long.

Let earth receive her King!

If you’ve never tried caroling as a Christmas outreach, why not make this your first year?  It is one of the very best ways to share the Gospel with your community! (more…)

Make Your Own Rockets!

In this article, we’re going to learn how to build a simple “matchstick rocket” right at home!

If you already know how rockets work, you can skip the next two paragraphs and get right to the project. Otherwise, read on to learn the basic principles behind the rockets we’ll build.

To begin with, a rocket is a craft powered by thrust generated by the expulsion of matter. A rocket differs from a propeller-driven airplane in that it is powered, not by a propeller pulling it through the air, but by the ejection of spent fuel. It is also different than an object launched from a catapult. Whereas a catapult sends an object flying by means of a single impetus, a rocket achieves flight by constant thrust.

Normally, rockets burn some sort of fuel in order to generate the necessary thrust. Solid fuels were normally used until Dr. Robert Goddard and Dr. Wernher von Braun popularized using liquid fuels. Today, most model rockets still use solid fuel, which is what our rocket experiment will use.

And now, on to the project! (more…)
