Gay
Marriage Passes Senate, Rally Planned!
Despite thousands of calls and emails from
constituents urging senators to defend marriage, the State Senate
passed SB 5688 that will give same-sex couples all the benefits of
marriage. 27 Democrats and 3 Republicans (King, Brandland, Pflug)
joined forces to defeat pro-family legislators who stood strong for
traditional families and religious freedom.
The Senate also rejected a proposed amendment that
would have given citizens of WA State the ability to approve or
reject the legislation.
Senator Dan Swecker from the 20th District
(Centralia, Chehalis, Lacey) had this to say during floor debate
on this issue:
"In
short, the bill (5688) defines domestic partnership as
marriage.
After the
courts get through with it, this may be the last vote we ever have on
homosexual marriage."
Would Washington State courts follow the lead of the
California Supreme Court in further enforcing and mandating gay
marriage upon the people regardless of our concerns??? It is possible.
The bill now moves to the House where it will
be considered. Only one man can stop it. You are urged to call
Speaker of the House, Rep. Frank Chopp,
and ask him to say no to same-sex marriage!
