Graduation Ideas …

Graduation from a family’s homeschool program is an important milestone in a young person’s life. It marks the end of more youthful studies & development and the transition to more adult pursuits as the student moves toward the future God has designed for him/her.

Many approaches can be used for observing this occasion, but for the sake of the child and the watching world, some type of celebration observance should be considered. Seek the Lord for the best way to honor & bless each graduate in your family.

Some Family Celebration Possibilities

  • Have distinctive graduation announcements made and send them to friends and relatives. Possibilities: Include some of your homeschool highlights, achievements, or plans for the future. Also include scripture verses that are especially meaningful to the graduate. This can be an excellent way to give testimony and glory to the Lord to those you know.
  • Vacation or Outing with Your Family: Share a special time together at a family favorite spot or explore a new area together. Celebrate your graduate’s completion of high school education with a dinner at a special restaurant and present him/her with meaningful gift(s) commemorating this important milestone. I.e., visit Vancouver, British Columbia; Leavenworth, WA; or other striking & memorable location.
  • Celebration Evening with Extended Family & Special Friends: At your home, a lovely restaurant, or other gathering place, mark the graduation with testimonies, commendation from parents, pastor, and/or mentors, and present diploma, letters, or other tokens for remembering this significant point in the young person’s life.

Some Church Ceremony/Celebration Possibilities

Any of the above could also be adapted to a joint graduation celebration for a number of church families.

  • Formal Graduation Ceremony & Reception: In addition, the church body & meeting place can lend themselves to a more traditional, formal graduation with caps, gowns, speeches, diploma presentations, special music, reception, etc. However, in this and all graduation festivities, be sure to keep Christ at the center and not adopt the ungodly traditions that are often associated with graduations.

Homeschool Friends Joint Graduation Celebration Possibilities

Variations of the above suggestions could also be done jointly by a homeschool support group or by two or more families wishing to celebrate together.
