2008 Conference Special Events

An encouragement from Patrick Henry:

Cultivate your mind by the perusal of those books which instruct while they amuse. History, geography, poetry, moral essays, biography, travels, sermons, and other well-written religious productions will not fail to enlarge your understanding, to render you a more agreeable companion, and to exalt your virtue.~ David J. Vaughan, Give Me Liberty: The Uncompromising Statesmanship of Patrick Henry, p. 141

christian heritage student chorale! ~ closing session performance!

This is a unique opportunity for homeschoolers of the Northwest to blend their voices to the Glory of God. Last year’s chorale was a stunning success! And many named it one of the highlights of the conference!

Students, ages 13 and older, are welcome but need a basic ability to read music and sing a part. Chorale instruction & practice will take place during two one hour Chorale Workshop sessions each day. The chorale will be performing three selections at the closing session on Saturday afternoon.

Instructor – Neil Craig

Mr. Craig has wide and varied professional musical experience, including being for many years the music director for Back to the Bible Broadcasts. In addition, he and his family served for several years as the directors for Russian orphanages in Moscow, Russia, and in Indianapolis, Indiana. He and his musically talented wife Mary are the homeschooling parents of five musically talented children, ages 19-32. As a family—including their married son & his wife—they delight in serving the Lord and in glorifying Him through vocal & instrumental song together.

And Mr. Craig has the unique gift of being able to teach and inspire in a most enjoyable fashion! The 2006 & 2007 Chorale participants were thrilled at what they learned in a few short hours together and at the fun they had in learning it. Washington homeschooled students & graduates are especially privileged to be able to participate in the Chorale and learn from this superb musician, arranger, instructor, and director.

christian heritage speaker & “support team” banquet! ~ saturday, 7:00-9:00

As an expression of our gratefulness for their important investment in this ministry, the Christian Heritage board will be hosting a dinner following the Conference for our Speakers and our “Support Team” Donors & Volunteers.

After dinner, a special address will be presented by Doug Phillips entitled:
“Toxic: Seven Poisons Which Threaten The Health of the Home School Movement—and their Antidotes”

  • For more than a quarter of a century the modern Homeschool movement has been the subject of God’s favor and blessing. Birthed out of a principled desire to return education to it’s biblical foundations, and to encourage family revival and multi-generational faithfulness, the homeschool movement persevered through numerous trials only to emerge as one of the most hopeful and encouraging movements within the Church. But as we approach the second decade of the 21st Century, the Homeschool movement now finds itself at a cross roads. Dangerous influences have emerged which threaten to undermine the coherence, purity, and significance of the Homeschool vision. Now Doug Phillips examines seven of the most insidious poisons being absorbed into the hearts of home education and he offers the surgical solutions necessary to restore health.
~~Post-conference Banquet attendance by invitation only to Conference Speakers and Christian Heritage “Support Team” Members
